The Hello, Goodbye Window written by Norton Juster is a children's picture book with wonderful illustrations by Chris Raschka. Who doesn't enjoy visiting grandparents. Well Nanna and Poppy live in a big house in the middle of town. The kitchen window overlooking the front of the house is not a regular window. It is the hello, goodbye window. It brings love and magic to the visits with Nanna and Poppy.

It's bedtime for the little red chicken and papa would like to read him a story. Papa reminds him not to interrupt the story, but as soon as papa starts, the silly little chicken jumps right in to finish the story for him. Hansel and Gretel, and Little Red Riding hood are just some of the stories that papa would like to share without being interrupted. This is a classic and a must read for any family. One of my favorites.

The author based on his memories on fleeing his home during WWII writes about a boy fleeing his home with nothing. His father sees the use of a map over buying bread for his family. The boy is angry but is drawn into the map and learns many truths about himself and family from his journeys with the map.
