Joseph is growing up with his crack addicted mother in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina. His father is battling for custody but the war has taken him to Iraq. Joseph's mother spends every last penny on booze and drugs. Joseph feels responsible for his mother and knows she needs someone to care for her. Read this heart wrenching account of a young black man growing up and struggling to survive.

This a a great novel of a 16 year old boy who becomes a single father. However, I do have to stress that there is some very strong language in this story. This young man is faced with tragedy, and the choice of right or wrong. This would be a great book for teenage boys who live on the edge to show the importance of making good decisions, and how those decisions could change your life forever.

Set in Ethiopia this story is about the children on the street and how they get there and survive. Mamo is tricked from his home and sold into slavery. He escapes onto the streets. This is the life of many children and this book gives us a glimpse into what this world is like.
