Junior High World History - The Renaissance: The Final Project

Coming out of the Dark Ages? Then the Renaissance is just what you are looking for! Investigate the location, artists, inventions, ideas and more that marked a major shift in World History.

The Big One!

Now that we have learned all about the Renaissance, you will partner up and choose one of the six project options below. If you have an idea for a project you don't see here, talk to me and we will talk about options. You will have class time to work on your project, but will also be expected to work on it outside of class.

Google Slide Presentation

I like Google, yes I do, I like Google... How about you? For this project, I would like you to create a Google Slide presentation of no more than 20 slides. Please use images and attractive layouts. Remember, whenever you copy an image or information from the internet - you need to follow copyright law and cite it!

Your presentation should be a summary of the Renaissance and include the following:

1. When and where the Renaissance occured.

2. The meaning of the word Renaissance, and why this movement began.

3. Highlight at least 3 artists who worked during the Renaissance.

4. Highlight at least 3 inventions/ideas made during the Renaissance.

5. Briefly discuss how the Medici are involved in the Renaissance.

6. Explain how the Ancient Romans and Greeks inspired people during the Renaissance.

7. Draw 3 examples from your life today that have a link to (are inspired by or a result of) the Renaissance.

YouTube Instructional Video

Rather create a video for YouTube?

You can work using Screenr capture or other software to create a movie no longer than 10 minutes.

To learn to use Screenr feel free to come to the library and Mrs. E will show you how.

Travel Journal

Want to take a trip? A nice vacation to Italy and Europe? Me too!

For this project, I'd like you to create a travel journal as if you had vsited 5 famous cities during the Renaissance. At each city, please write an entry to descibe what you see, who you meet, and why it was important. Please also include photos in your journal, but don't make them too large. I want to read mostly your writing on the subject. Your journal should be between 2-3 pages long with the pictures. You may type or handwrite the journal, but your penmanship must be able to be read.

Combine the following information into your travel journal. Feel free to mix and match items! You don't have to talk only about artists at one city, and only about inventions at another. Remember, whenever you copy an image or information from the internet - you need to follow copyright law and cite it!

1. Make sure your travel journal is dated during the Renaissance, and that you visit cities that existed then. (If you have questions about a city, please come and ask)

2. Describe how you think the people of the Renaissance feel about the changes they see in art, science, the economy, and the new idea of humanism.

3. Highlight at least 3 artists who worked during the Renaissance.

4. Highlight at least 3 inventions/ideas made during the Renaissance.

5. At one of your stops meet a  Medici family member and share their story.

6. Explain where you see how the Renaissance used Ancient Roman and Greek ideas.

7. Draw 3 examples from your life today that have a link to (are inspired by or a result of) the Renaissance.

Compare and Contrast Poster and Paper

Like comparing apples and oranges? Read below!

The Renaissance was a unique change in history. It marked a new era of thought, art, science, and culture altogether. For this assignment, you will need to choose one of the following topics: Middle Ages vs. The Renaissance or The Italian Renaissance vs. the Northern Renaissance.

Once you have your topic and clear it with Mrs. Krummel you will need to do the following:

1. Write a 2 page, double spaced, 12 point font, paper comparing and contrasting your subject. For example you may wish to write about how education, art, and government were different in the Renaissance compared to the Middle Ages.

2. Have Mrs. Krummel check your paper before moving on to the next step!

3. Create a poster sized Venn Diagram (or another graphic organizer) to share with the class using the information from your paper.

Need help thinking of things to compare and contrast?

Consider using these: art, education, government, how people earned a living, locations, philosophy (how people think about life), technology available, access to books, view of the world (at one time it was believed the sun revolved around the Earth), how people spent their money, what people valued... just as some starters.

Renaissance (w)Rap

Feeling the beat and lyrics? This one is for you!

With your partner, you will need to create a song based on the Renaissance. I will need the lyrics written out, along with a 1 page (double spaced, 12 point font) explaination of the lyrics.

For example: 'The Medici run this club, they make the dough" could be explained in the paper by saying: This lyric shows that the Medici were a powerful family in Florence who helped the Renaissance grow when they used their profits from the banking industry to sponsor works of culture.

Your song will need at least 3 stanzas and a refrain in between each stanza. You will not need to explain the refrain twice in your paper, but can repeat the lyrics.

Somewhere in your song you will need to cover the following:

1. When and where the Renaissance occured.

2. Why the Renaissance began.

3. Highlight at least 3 artists who worked during the Renaissance.

4. Highlight at least 3 inventions/ideas made during the Renaissance.

5. Mention how the Medici are involved in the Renaissance.

6. Explain how the Ancient Romans and Greeks inspired people during the Renaissance.

7. Draw 3 examples from your life today that have a link to (are inspired by or a result of) the Renaissance.

Dateline Renaissance

     Feeling like a newscaster?

In this project, you and your partner will need to create a script for a news program that is no longer than 15 minutes. You are encouraged to use visual aids like television newsanchors do, or you may choose to do a radio style newscast.

The script should cover the following:

Once your script is all set, see Mrs. Krummel or Mrs. E in the library for equipment to tape your news story.
