Audio/Visual

Living in the past. Life in Medieval Times. Produced by Kultur Internatinoal Films. (2006). DVD

This movie explains the everyday life in the Medieval Times. Features: A reconstructed working medieval village, Authentic recreations to illustrate all aspects of life all that time and more.  The students will really enjoy watching this in class.

Medieval heroines in history and legend. Wheeler, Bonnie. Published by Teaching Co.(2002). CD

This set contains six CD's and a book which goes through the different heroines during Medieval Times.  Because of the many CD's, I would advise teachers to listen to these and only share the information you feel is important to the students.

Medieval Times, Castles and Cathedrals, Life in the Middle Ages.  Produced by Joseph Sitko, distributed by United Learning. (1992). VHS

This movie is a great resource for teachers to gain more knowledge on castles and cathedrals.  It is very informative but it may seem boring to the kids.  It would be better to pull out the more important information and only share that instead of making the kids watch the entire movie.

Times Medieval. Published by Discovery Communications. (1997) VHS and CD-Rom, teacher's guide and 30 student worksheets.

"Knights in shining armor, tales of valor and bravery, magnificient castles rising out of the mist--they're all here in this four-part video that looks at some aspects of life in the Middle Ages.  Learn about the feudal society, the armore that protected knights and soldiers, the castles that guarded a lord and his people against attack.  Then study the legend that epitomizes the spirit of medieval times--the tale of King Arthur." Borrowed from video container.  This is a nicely layed out series with everything a teacher needs to teach it.  The problem is finding a computer to run the CD-Rom, being 14 years old.  Great for both teachers and students.

Modern Marvels, Battle Gear. Published by History Channel, distributed by New Video. (2005). DVD

"Take an in-depth tour of duty that explores the armor and weapons that have made a foot soldier's job possible throughout the ages.  From battle armor to bubble gum, you might be surprised by what soldiers have carried into battle."  Taken from jacket.  Another great video to use to introduce Medieval warfare.  Because it is fairly new, the kids will really be able to relate and enjoy.

his is a great website which makes your students research castles because they need to build one with specific needs.  A teacher will need to facilitate first before letting the kids run wild.

This website is highly interesting.  What better way to start a lesson on Medieval Times than to show disgusting jobs from that time.  Some are so gross, your kids may need to turn away.  They are great.
