Objectives

  • Students will understand and comprehend the different aspects of the research process.
  • Students will collaborate with others to build consensus around a group decision.
  • Students will understand their role as citizens in a democratic society.
  • Students will present information in which the organization and style are appropriate to the audience and purpose.
  • Students will appreciate the process of complex problem solving from multiple perspectives.  

 

 

Timeline

Students will complete research and presentation within the following timeline.

  • 5 class periods - choose roles, develop position statement, and log research
  • 1 class period   - consensus on position statement and decide on type of presentation
  • 4 class periods - create presentation
  • 3 class periods - present to class, student reflection and wrap-up

Logistics

Schedule computer lab or computer cart for research and development of presentation.

Schedule librarian to help with the research. 

Potential Issues

Students will be assigned to groups according to abilities and personal interactions.
