Just when your online search has begun, the network goes down.  Using the attached questionaire, take a moment to think about what you've learned, and what help you might need to continue your research for when the system goes back online.  The students of OurTown are depending upon you!

Dear Missy Smith and Billy Brown:

I am writing to address my needs for the cyber bullying project. As you know, the media has been snooping around the school district, interviewing students to find out about our bullying problem, and all of this negative media attention directly affects our goals of trying to provide students with a quality education in a safe school environment.  I know Mrs. Krabappel has given you the task of creating a presentation that you will share with the school board meeting next month; I’ve invited the media to come to this presentation to address the public’s concern with school and Internet safety. In addition to her recommendations, I would like to add some requests for your presentation.

In these cash-strapped times, I need to impress upon you the requirement for cost-effective solutions. You and your council members need to create a budget that will project cost for implementation for our district.  This link will help you understand simple budgets (http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/money/managing/print_sample_budget_sheet.html), and this sample budget will help you plan for this project (http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/money/managing/print_sample_budget_sheet.html).  Please submit your budget by October 18 so I can review it prior to our board meeting.

Finally, I need for you create a publicity piece to hand out to concerned parents and students who may be in attendance.  We need this to summarize your information is a professional, concise, and, most importantly, helpful way.  For students who struggle with bullying, this resource should help them understand how to deal with their problem. In addition, the resource should also have information for concerned adults who want to be advocates for the  victimized children in their lives.  This piece is a reflection of our district, so be sure to present us in a good light. There are many excellent resources out there to find solutions, I’m certain, but you might want to begin to find those solutions here (http://www.relationalaggression.com/2011/05/04/cyber-bully-bystanders/) . A list of your resources for students and another list of resources for parents should be submitted to me, as well, so that I can determine age appropriateness and helpfulness for their audiences.

Thank you for your diligent efforts on your school’s behalf.

Sincerely yours,

Charles Montgomery Burns

System Fail: Hysterical Parent

Dear Mrs. Krabappel:

My son Ralph has been tormented at school in recent weeks. He's been hiding in his room, refusing to go to school, because of the relentless attacks led by a child name Nelson Muntz.  I need to know what you intend to do about it?! I need help getting him back to school, but I can't, in good conscience, send him to school if I don't feel it is a safe place for him.

Cordially,

Mrs. Sarah Wiggum

Dear Mrs. Krabappel:

My son Nelson told me that he has been called to your office several times in the past month. I don't know why you keep thinking that Nelson is a problem. My son would never pick on another kid at school, and you keep targeting him even though he hasn't done anything. Boys will be boys, and whatever happened to the old saying: "sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you." Kids may say things on Facebook, but that won't really matter in the long run.

I want a response about what you plan to do about it.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Muntz
