The American Civil War lasted from 1861-1865. It has been refereed to as the "War Between the States", the "War of the Rebellion", or the "War of the Confederacy". The Civil War began on April 12, 1861 when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina and ended on May 9, 1865. It remains the deadliest war in American history, accounting for roughly as many American deaths as all other U.S. wars combined. |
