Reading and literacy continue to be a major focus and area that schools continue to focus their resources to plan and implement strategies to improve student proficiency. There are many resources available to use in planning for programs to encourage students to read and all research points to the importance of collaboration between the classroom teacher and library media specialist. The library media specialist should be involved with students and staff to guide them in their selections, work collaboratively to select a variety of resources, and encourage reading for enjoyment as readers are leaders.
