If you've ever wondered what a storyboard is, why it's needed to create a film, or how to make one, these resources will help begin your exploration of the process.
The American Film Institute has created a manual that shows budding directors how to illustrate the movement of the camera, as well as its focus, in a storyboard. Be sure to consult this resource for a variety of ideas on how to compose the plans for your shots.
Use one of the following activities to create the storyboard for your film. Be sure to follow the screenplay as closely as possible when translating the text to images. When you are done, use the "My Storyboard" box to upload your storyboard for all of us to see.
This video discusses the process of storyboarding and how it was used in the creation of Disney's Toy Story.
The books listed here will provide you with more in depth information on storyboarding, real life examples of the process, and activities to practice your storyboarding skills prior to beginning the storyboard for your film.
Jacoby Matott
The expert for this portion of the Movie Magic project will be Jacoby Matott, a graduate of Cadott High School. Jacoby is currently studying theater at UW-Barron and will soon enter film school at UW-Milwaukee.
For the workshop, Jacoby will share some of his storyboards and short films with students via Skype. He'll also talk about the importance of directing a film and capturing the "perfect" shot!
