What is a DENbrarian?

I'm a DENbrarian!

Young Adult (YA) literature has become increasingly popular over the last few years for kids and adults, alike. To continue to develop this love of reading and deepen it further, DEN Leadership Council members have started a league of DENbrarians to find and organize resources to support a new YA novel each month.

The Apothecary by Maile Maloy

From the Discovery Education Pinterest board: The Apothecary: It’s 1952 and the Scott family has just moved from Los Angeles to London. There, fourteen-year-old Janie meets a mysterious apothecary and becomes fascinated by his son, Benjamin Burrows—a boy who isn’t afraid to stand up to authority and who dreams of becoming a spy.

Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan

I admit it.  I judge books by the covers, and this one just didn't attrack me.

But, checking out this Discovery Education Pinterest board has my attention picqued.

Check out this blog entry:

Willow Chance is a twelve-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by 7s. It has never been easy for her to connect with anyone other than her adoptive parents, but that hasn’t kept her from leading a quietly happy life . . . until now.

Suddenly Willow’s world is tragically changed when her parents both die in a car crash, leaving her alone in a baffling world. The triumph of this book is that it is not a tragedy.

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger

Here's an excerpt from Booklist: Tommy and his friends think that Dwight is a weirdo who’s “always talking about robots or spiders or something.” In true Dwight fashion, he shows up at school one day brandishing a little origami Yoda finger puppet. The really weird thing is that it doles out very un-Dwight-like bits of wisdom, and the mystery is whether the Yoda is just Dwight talking in a funny voice or if it actually has mystical powers...
