2011 Course Requirements

Bibliography

One of the requirements of the course is to read two books about the culure, history, and/or educational tradition of New Zealand.  I short bibliography has been provided to give you some ideas, but don't feel limited by this list.  One summary and reflection on a book is due before the trip (May 6) and the other when you come back (August 12).  While in the past, most people have submitted written reflections, feel free to explore other options.  Your work should be submitted in Desire2Learn.

Course Requirements

This 6-credit graduate course is designed to give participants an opportunity to:

  1. Observe and participate in an overseas school.
  2. Experience the family life of a colleague from another country.
  3. Gain an international perspective on the process and purpose of schooling.
  4. Encourage and promote intercultural and international understandings and acceptance.
  5. Expand their pedagogical repertoire, improve their cross-cultural communications skills, and develop a greater understanding of others.
  6. Expand or refine their personal philosophy of education.
  7. Enhance the international understanding of both their host and home school students.

Students may take the course on a conventional grade or pass/fail basis. Requirements to receive a grade of B or PASS are detailed in the attached file. To get an A students must complete a project dealing with some aspect of the education or culture of the host country with the approval of the instructor.  All projects are due August 12 in the appropriate Desire2Learn dropbox.

Desire2Learn

Use your UWW netID and password to get into Desire2Learn, the UWW course management system.  We'll use this mainly for its discussion forums and dropbox for assignments.
